    BMVMT006 - Robert James/Kolter - Planet Pusher

Robert James’ Body Movement label returns with a double-header featuring the bossman himself along with Kolter. Both artists deliver two tracks each on this EP, with Rob giving us a little insight into what to expect from his debut album. Both ‘Planet 90’ and ‘Planet Funk’ are taken from Rob’s forthcoming LP, offering a sneak peak of the full-length project which is due later this year. Meanwhile, Kolter (AKA Djoko) adds his own touch to the release with a couplet that demonstrates why he’s achieved widespread praise at such an early stage in his music career.

‘Planet 90’ kicks things off with a jovial bounce in its step. Vintage vocal clips and organ keys give it more than a hint of nostalgia, while Rob keeps the energy high and the rhythm intoxicating. This is bound to get the dance floor faithful lively.

Next up we carry on our deep space odyssey, landing on ‘Planet Funk’. Here we encounter 808 atmospherics straight out of a retro breakdance movie. Aliens are body popping, while spacemen play back-to-back on the decks. Rob taps into the mysterious, cosmic aspect of electro perfectly with this captivating cut.

On the flip Kolter does his thing, starting off with ‘Pusher’. This one comes with a funky little groove, the low end encouraging you to boogie uncontrollably while Kolter crafts a whimsical atmosphere with a variety of layers and shifts that keep you engaged. From classic rave, to funk and hammond organs, it’s all in there and it all makes total sense.

Finally, ‘Missed Out’ closes this eclectic release. A mean b-line throbs and shudders, while Kolter pumps up the percussion with crisp breaks adding a healthy dose of good energy. As the track progresses, more elements creep in, adding depth and further movement. Kolter showcasing his ability to produce utterly enchanting dance music, with plenty of character.
